because the name feather might symbolize something to him that meant something very special to him
well feather definitely is an interesting name.there has to be some treasured meaning behind it.and in some ways its uniquely beautiful.

the author might've wanted the reader to have their own theory and just leave it a mystery...
Maybe, it was a symbol for a dove, because the baby is an angel.
